Many people are still new to Facebook and it is daunting having to learn what certain things mean and can be embarrassed that they don't already know. Hopefully this list of Facebook terms will go some way to helping them.

In your privacy settings you are able to control the audience who can see certain things. Shown by icons and menus.
A real time facility to be able to chat online to your friends using a pop up window
A short note which you type in response to a status update or photo
A feature in Facebook that inform friends of an event or social occasion which shows the place, date and time. An online invitation.
Another person on Facebook that you have connected to and agreed to exchange information. Regardless if they are family, friend or colleague.
Viewing Facebook while on the move using a mobile or table
A person asking you to be there friend on Facebook ~ you can decline if you want to
A group on Facebook who get together to collaborate with each other sharing information, ideas and discuss a particular subject that they are interested in
The homepage contains your news feed and links to other features available within Facebook
Clicking like shows your approval on a comment, photo or video. If you like a page, you will start to see their status updates in your news feed
You can organise friends into lists to make it easier to manage them.

Indications that something has happened in Facebook that you should be aware of, i.e someone has tagged you or you have a message, or someone has updates their wall (if you have pre selected to be notified of this)
A page is an area set up by organisations, charities, businesses etc to showcase them. Personal profiles are not allowed to be used to showcase a business; they must set up a page on Facebook.
Audience selector settings to control your audience who will see certain updates and images posted by you
Your profile will list certain personal information about yourself, career, interests and a recent photo of yourself.
A short update to tell your friends (and others if your privacy settings have not been restricted) of what you are up to or thinking
Labelling a friend's name on a photo or a status update
A listing of all your personal information and your activities, photos and videos.
Text updates saying how you feel or what you are doing. These can include photos, videos and website links.
